Role Purpose: What Does a Team Leader Do?

As a Team Leader, you will supervise and manage a team of inspectors, ensuring that employers comply with the country’s labour laws and that workers’ rights are protected.

Duties and Responsibilities

As a Team Leader, you’ll:

  • In this government Team Leader role, you will be expected to:
  • Lead and manage inspections in terms of BCEA, LRA, OHS Act, and other relevant labour legislation.
  • Plan and execute investigations related to reported labour law violations.
  • Act as a state witness during legal proceedings and enforce compliance where necessary.
  • Coordinate proactive inspections (Blitzes) across industries and compile inspection reports.
  • Manage finalisation of inspector files and ensure accurate documentation of outcomes.
  • Conduct awareness campaigns on labour law compliance in workplaces and communities.
  • Contribute to regional strategy by participating in planning, analysis, and statistical reporting.

Minimum Requirements

  • Educational Qualifications (NQF Level 6 or 7):
    • National Diploma (NQF6) or Bachelor’s Degree (NQF7) in:
      • Labour Relations
      • Labour Law
      • LLB
      • BCom Law
  • National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following:
    • Labour Relations
    • Labour Law
    • LLB
    • BCom Law
  • Experience Required:
  • Minimum of 2 years in Inspection and Enforcement Services or a similar role.
  • Other Requirements:
  • A valid driver’s license is essential.
  • Willingness to travel as needed for inspections and investigations.
    • Valid driver’s license.
