Requirements for Porter
- Minimum educational qualification: Basic numeracy and literacy.
- Experience: Appropriate experience in a public health facility preferred.
- Inherent requirements of the job:
- Willingness to work shifts, overtime, weekends, and public holidays.
- Ability to report for duty at 6:45 AM.
- Physical ability to handle heavy objects and assist with patient mobility.
- Willingness to handle corpses when required.

- Ability to follow safety and hospital protocols.
Key Responsibilities
As a Porter you will be required to:
- Transport walking and non-ambulatory patients safely between wards, treatment areas, and ambulances.
- Assist with patient transfers, loading/unloading, and mobility support.
- Maintain mortuary cleanliness and manage corpses according to hospital protocols.
- Handle medical documentation including patient files and reports.
- Direct visitors and respond to ward or clinic queries.
- Support daily operational tasks for a well-organized hospital environment.
- Assist in stock and equipment movement, ensuring timely delivery to wards and departments.
- Perform minor maintenance tasks for hospital trolleys, wheelchairs, and stretchers.
- Monitor safety protocols while transporting patients and equipment.
- Support infection prevention initiatives and adhere to hygiene standards.
Duties
- Accompany walking patients and transport non-ambulatory patients via trolley or wheelchair between wards and treatment areas.
- Assist with loading patients into and out of ambulances or vehicles.
- Support patient transfers to beds or trolleys and vice versa.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the mortuary.
- Transport corpses from wards to the mortuary and record details in the mortuary register.
- Direct or accompany visitors to various hospital locations and respond to ward/clinic requests.
- Carry medical and administrative documentation (patient files, reports, etc.) to designated areas.
