About the Household Aid Role

Tygerberg Hospital is seeking Household Aids to ensure hygienic conditions in clinical and non-clinical areas. Your dedication contributes directly to patient safety, staff efficiency, and the overall quality of care.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness in all clinical and general areas, including sweeping, dusting, mopping, scrubbing, polishing, and deep cleaning of toilets and patient rooms.
• Perform terminal cleaning in isolation wards, ICU, and high-risk areas.
• Assist supervisors with daily housekeeping operations, including linen distribution, meal serving, and hospital waste management.
• Conduct routine checks and ensure cleaning equipment is maintained and securely stored.
• Monitor and adhere strictly to Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) policies and hospital hygiene standards.
• Keep stock of cleaning materials and report shortages or damages.
• Participate in hygiene audits and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Rotate across departments to ensure high standards throughout the hospital.

Requirements for Household Aid

• Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
• Appropriate cleaning experience in a healthcare environment.
• Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and moving equipment.
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and night duty.
• Ability to work under pressure and maintain a high level of professionalism.
