Job Purpose (Maintenance Officer)

The Maintenance Officer plays a key role in enforcing the Maintenance Act, ensuring financial support is provided where needed. This role involves handling legal processes related to family law, guiding investigators, and ensuring the smooth functioning of maintenance systems.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: An LLB Degree or a four-year recognized legal qualification.
  • Experience: Appropriate post-qualification legal experience.
  • Knowledge:
    • Maintenance Act and related family law matters
    • Maintenance systems, services, and procedures
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Strong communication skills (verbal & written)
    • Numeracy and analytical ability
    • Computer literacy (MS Office)
    • Interpersonal and problem-solving skills
    • Report writing, accuracy, and attention to detail
    • Time management and ability to work under pressure
  • Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license is essential.
  • Language Requirements (Soshanguve): English, Xitsonga, and Setswana.

Key Responsibilities

As a Maintenance Officer, you will:

  • Execute the powers, duties, and functions of a Maintenance Officer in line with the Maintenance Act.
  • Gather and analyze financial information for maintenance enquiries.
  • Guide and support maintenance investigators in carrying out their duties.
  • Implement and enforce bench orders issued by the courts.
  • Prepare reports and compile statistics for departmental use.
  • Contribute to improving efficiency and access to justice in family law matters.
