About the Court Interpreter Role

As a Court Interpreter, you will be the bridge between the court system and participants who require language support. You will ensure accurate communication in criminal, civil, and labour court proceedings, contributing directly to fair and effective judicial processes. This role is ideal for individuals with strong linguistic skills, attention to detail, and a passion for legal processes.

Requirements For a Court Interpreter

  • Education: NQF Level 4 / Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Experience: 3 months practical experience advantageous
  • Licenses: Driver’s license is an added advantage
  • Language: Proficiency in English plus required indigenous languages for the specific centre
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Excellent written and verbal communication
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • Accuracy and attention to detail
    • Computer literacy
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in sensitive court matters

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Interpret in criminal, civil, and labour courts
  • Provide interpretation during consultations and quasi-judicial proceedings
  • Translate legal documents and exhibits
  • Record cases in criminal record books
  • Prepare case records on request of Magistrates and Prosecutors
  • Maintain statistical records of cases
