Principal Court Interpreter Position Details
- Job Title: Principal Court Interpreter (X2 Posts)
- Salary: R397 116 – R467 790 per annum (Salary Level 08)
- Performance Agreement: Required upon appointment
- Centres:
- Magistrate Court, Port Shepstone – Ref No: 25/11/KZN
- Magistrate Court, Ntuzuma – Ref No: 25/12/KZN

Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this post, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification:
- NQF Level 4 / Grade 12
- National Diploma: Legal Interpreting (NQF Level 5) OR another relevant tertiary qualification (NQF Level 5)
- Experience:
- At least five (5) years of practical experience as a court interpreter
- Minimum two (2) years in a supervisory role
- Languages:
- Proficiency in English and two or more indigenous languages
- Additional foreign or rare language skills will be an advantage
- Other Requirements for Principal Court Interpreter:
- Valid driver’s licence
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, listening, and problem-solving skills
- Strong computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to manage time effectively and work under pressure
- Proven confidentiality and professional conduct

Duties & Responsibilities
As a Principal Court Interpreter, you will be expected to:
- Manage and supervise interpreters across the district offices
- Render interpreting services during court proceedings
- Translate legal documents and exhibits accurately
- Develop legal terminology and maintain interpreter glossaries
- Assist with the reconstruction of court records when necessary
- Procure and manage foreign language interpreters and casual interpreters
- Provide effective people management within your unit
