About the BCEA Inspector Role
The Department of Employment and Labour is seeking dedicated and detail-oriented BCEA Inspector to join the Inspection Services division. This is a critical role responsible for ensuring compliance with South Africa’s labour legislation, protecting workers’ rights, and promoting fair workplace practices.
You will be conducting inspections, investigating complaints, and educating employers and employees about their legal obligations. Minimum Requirements
To qualify for BCEA Inspector, applicants must have:
- A three-year relevant qualification at NQF Level 6 in Labour Relations, BCOM Law, or LLB.
- A valid driver’s licence.
- In-depth knowledge of:
- Basic Conditions of Employment Act
- Departmental policies and procedures
- Skills Development Act
- Labour Relations Act
- Unemployment Insurance Act and Unemployment Insurance Contributions Act
- Employment Equity Act
- Customer Service principles (Batho Pele)
Skills Required
- Strong facilitation, planning, and organizing skills
- Computer literacy (MS Office)
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Competence in interviewing and report writing
Key Duties and Responsibilities
As a BCEA Inspector, you will be responsible for:
- Conducting occupational inspections to ensure compliance with all applicable labour legislation.
- Investigating reported contraventions of labour laws and enforcing compliance where necessary.
- Performing proactive blitz inspections to monitor ongoing compliance within various industries.
- Leading advocacy and awareness campaigns on identified labour legislation to educate employers and employees.
- Assisting in the drafting of inspection plans, preparing reports, and compiling statistics for allocated cases.
Competencies required as BCEA Inspector
Essential:
- Prior experience in inspections or labour law enforcement.
- Trustworthiness and integrity.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in reporting.
Advantageous:
- Additional languages relevant to the area of work.
- Previous public sector or labour inspection experience.
Advantageous:
- Experience in labour inspection within the public sector
- Bilingual or multilingual communication skills
Employment Conditions
- Must be willing to travel and work extended hours if required
- Physically fit to conduct site inspections
- Must have clear credit and criminal records
- South African citizenship required
