Job Purpose (Assistant Master)
The role of an Assistant Master is pivotal in the administration of deceased estates, insolvent estates, trusts, curatorships, and the Guardian’s Fund. This position requires strong legal expertise, decision-making skills, and the ability to work under pressure while ensuring compliance with South Africa’s laws and regulations.
Requirements
To qualify for Assistant Master, applicants must have:
- LLB Degree or a four-year recognised legal qualification.
- In-depth knowledge of the following Acts and related legislation:
- Administration of Estates Act
- Insolvency Act
- Mental Health Act
- Compliance Act
- Companies Act
- Close Corporations Act
- Trust Property Control Act
- Practical experience in services provided by the Master of the High Court.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Strong planning and organisational abilities
- Dispute resolution and problem-solving skills
- Excellent time management
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and under pressure
- Computer literacy (MS Office)
Key Duties and Responsibilities
As an Assistant Master, you will:
- Manage the administration of deceased and insolvent estates, trusts, and curatorships.
- Provide strategic direction to the office of the Master of the High Court.
- Monitor and implement departmental policies, procedures, and legislation.
- Oversee the operations and management of the Guardian’s Fund.
- Ensure quality improvement in all legal and administrative processes.
- Uphold the Department’s mandate of justice accessibility and service excellence.
