About the Role (Maintenance Investigator)
The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Maintenance Investigator to join its team at the Magistrate’s Court, Krugersdorp (Gauteng). This role is ideal for individuals with strong administrative and investigative skills who are passionate about ensuring justice and supporting families in maintenance-related matters.
Requirements:
Maintenance Investigator Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12 / Senior Certificate or an equivalent qualification.
- Relevant administrative experience, preferably in Family Law or Maintenance matters.
- Sound knowledge and understanding of the Maintenance Act (Act 99 of 1989).
- Strong computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and other relevant software).
- Ability to communicate effectively in English and at least one other South African language.
Skills and Competencies:
- Good verbal and written communication.
- Planning, organizing, and time management skills.
- Strong interpersonal relations and ability to work with diverse communities.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.

Duties and Responsibilities:
As a Maintenance Investigator, your role will directly support the smooth functioning of the maintenance system. Your responsibilities will include:
- Serving Maintenance Summons, Warrants, and Garnishee Orders as directed by the court.
- Conducting investigations to trace and locate parties involved in maintenance disputes.
- Gathering, verifying, and submitting evidence in line with the Maintenance Act.
- Giving testimony in court under oath regarding investigations and findings.
- Assisting in the recovery of outstanding maintenance payments.
- Liaising with stakeholders, including magistrates, prosecutors, maintenance officers, and the public.
- Rendering effective administrative support within the Maintenance Section.
- Contributing to the overall efficiency of the court’s maintenance services.
