Minimum Requirements for Independent Correctional Centre Visitor

To qualify, applicants must have:

  • Grade 12 / Senior Certificate
  • Basic computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Recommendation/nomination from a community organisation (not older than 6 months)
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Good communication skills (written & verbal)
  • Public-spirited mindset with knowledge of Batho Pele Principles
  • Assertiveness and the ability to work under pressure
  • A valid driver’s licence will be an advantage
  • Preference given to applicants living near the correctional centre

Key Duties & Responsibilities

As an Independent Correctional Centre Visitor, your role will include:

  • Visiting the assigned correctional facility daily
  • Engaging with inmates and officials regarding complaints and welfare issues
  • Monitoring prison conditions and reporting findings to management
  • Observing and documenting deaths, segregation, use of force, and restraints
  • Supporting JICS officials during inspections and investigations
  • Handling administrative duties, including capturing complaints and mandatory matters
  • Compiling detailed, accurate reports for review
