Job Summary – State Accountant
The State Accountant will play a key role within the Office of the Chief Financial Officer by managing and facilitating creditor payments, maintaining expenditure records, and supporting the overall financial management processes. This role requires attention to detail, strong administrative skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Key Requirements
- Grade 12 / Senior Certificate
- National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Accounting, Financial Management, or related field
- 1 – 3 years’ experience in financial management or related field
- Sound knowledge of BAS (Basic Accounting System) and LOGIS (Logistics Information System)
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good multitasking and administration skills
- Proficiency in English and at least one other official South African language
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Facilitate processing of creditor payments within 30 days in line with government financial policies
- Check the accuracy of invoices and authenticity of supporting documentation
- Prepare and submit paid batches for filing and audit purposes
- Respond to queries from suppliers, internal departments, and external stakeholders
- Maintain and reconcile creditor accounts, ensuring timely resolution of outstanding queries
- Process salary-related payments and allowances accurately and on time
- Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual expenditure reports
- Maintain a detailed payment register and track all forms of payments, ensuring compliance with expenditure patterns
- Identify and report misallocations or irregular use of funds to management
- Provide guidance to programme and responsibility managers on budget utilization
- Support audits and assist with financial reporting as required
- Contribute to the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures within JICS
