Purpose of the Transport Officer Position

The Transport Officer will play a key role in supporting the operational and administrative functions of JICS by managing transport assets efficiently. This includes ensuring compliance with government fleet policies, assisting in procurement and allocation of vehicles, and providing logistical support for organisational activities.

  • Operational efficiency of JICS field and office activities
  • Compliance with legal and regulatory fleet requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Fleet & Asset Management
  • Monitor and maintain the government fleet in accordance with policies
  • Allocate vehicles to staff based on operational needs
  • Conduct pre- and post-inspections of all vehicles
  • Maintain and update logbooks, petrol cards, and records
  • Assist in vehicle procurement, replacement, and disposal
  • Logistical Support
  • Coordinate transport schedules for inspections, official travel, and events
  • Liaise with suppliers and service providers for fleet-related services
  • Support staff during official site visits or field inspections
  • Administrative Duties
  • Maintain accurate records of all transport-related activities
  • Compile reports on fleet usage, maintenance, and incidents
  • Perform asset verification and barcoding for all transport assets
  • Provide general administrative support to the Chief Financial Officer
  • Compliance & Safety
  • Ensure adherence to government transport and fleet management policies
  • Maintain vehicle safety standards and monitor adherence to occupational health and safety regulations
  • Report any faults, hazards, or unsafe conditions immediately

Requirements for Transport Officer

Other Requirements:

  • Education & Qualifications:
  • Grade 12 / Senior Certificate (minimum)
  • National Diploma in Fleet Management or relevant NQF Level 6 qualification

Experience:

  • At least 2 years in fleet management or related transport administration
  • Knowledge & Skills:

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Supply chain management in the public sector
  • Government fleet policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Strong organizational, numerical, and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Other Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • South African citizen
  • Willingness to comply with JICS policies and procedures
